Creating Custom Drop Boxes in Mac OS X Server

Step 1:
Determine who you want to “own” the drop box and who you want to have write access to the drop box. For instance, will only one person or a group have access to read the contents of the drop box? Will everyone or a specific group have write access to the drop box?

Step 2:
Determine how the drop box will be shared. Do you have a current share point where you will add the drop box, or will you create a new one? For information on creating and managing share points see Apple’s “File Services Administration” file, located at (http://www.apple.com/server/documentation/)

Step 3:
Create a new folder for your drop box within the share that you selected in step 2, and name it appropriately.

Step 4:
Configure the privileges based on your choice during step 1. To do this:
-Single click on the folder that you created in step 3.
-Select “Get Info” from the “File” menu.
-In the “Info” window that opens, click on the appropriate arrows to display the current “Ownership and Permissions” settings.

Now, you can set the permissions based on your choices in step 1.

In the screenshot, anyone (Others) with access to the share point can put contents into the drop box. Anyone in the “admin” group can view and open the contents of the drop box, but only “martin” can remove items from the drop box.
